Residency Interview Experience
University of Hawaii Program

The interview didn't go as well as I had expected it would because the interviewer didn't seem that interested in me, it was like she was just going through the motions. I asked her questions about the program and that seemed to help move the interview along. The questions that she asked were about the number of attempts at passing USMLE I-III; why did it take more than one attempt to pass each step? I felt more comfortable throughout the day visiting the three hospitals that the residents rotate through.
Residency Interview Experience
Synergy Medical Education Alliance Program

I believe that my interview went pretty well with this program. Program director, other faculty members, residents and the staff were pretty professional. They asked me why I am interested in Family Medicine. Behavior director wanted to know about my reaction in different clinical situations in an office setting. I felt quite at ease throughout my interview.

Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center Program

Low stress interview. Director and staff were friendly. Area of the Bronx around the hospital looked safe enough.
Residency Interview Experience
Mercy Hospital and Medical Center Program

The interview was generally okay.We started by joining with the tumor board, then went on to have the hospital tour. The program coordinator and director were nice, but we didn't have enough contact with the residents despite attempts made by the director. The residents were in a hurry and didn't seem to have time to spare. We had a nice meal and each person was interviewed by 2 staffs. They asked some medical questions, but maintained a relaxed atmosphere.
Overall Residency Experience

Its seems that there are a lot more residency applicants this year. This is the general thought from all the residency directors and coordinator. They have stated that there are many Caribbean students applying to family medicine. It appears as though family medicine is not a guarantee any longer.
Residency Interview Experience
University of South Florida Program

The hospital TGH is one of the nicest places i ever seen. The ER been just extended and more space to already existed part. All stuff very friendly and give you a lot of info about program i am talking about the residents.I am a FMG but everybody were very friendly they have few in a program i think from India. The medical director very nice and friendly i felt very calm and comfortable. I think program is excellent the teachers are very good i know it cause i am working in ER and we are contacting them a lot.The residents are very nice and helpful they will to work as a team and helps a lot to each other, and it some chance for FMG cause the program pretty young.
Residency Interview Experience
Southern Illinois University Program

This program's interview was amazing. It started the night before with a dinner with one of the resident, who was a nice guy to talk to. he answered many questions. Next day, 9am, i met with the program coordinator where she provided a copy of the curriculum and the contract. Then a 30min interview with the research director of the program who was was amazingly friendly and informative. Then i had lunch with another 1st yr resident. Then 30min with an attending. Then another 30min with another attending and assoc director who was very friendly, honest and helpful. And last was the director, she was a very welcoming lady. she was very nice and direct. My advice about this program is, BE HONEST. don't try to out smart them. just be yourself and DO NOT memorize answers to questions you expect.. Overall, amazing and friendly program that is worth the time..

Jackson Memorial Hospital/Jackson Health System Program

Latin American applicants go through a different office: the William J. Harrington Foundation. People there are really nice and help you with all the process. It helps a lot if you have a previous experience like observerships in the hospital/program.
Residency Interview Experience
White Memorial Medical Center Program

Overall it was good. They offer 2nd look as well, so you have one day of "real resident life" exposure. Everyone was nice: the faculty, the director, the coordinator, the residents. Free breakfast and lunch were also very much appreciated.
Residency Interview Experience
St Vincent Hospital and Health Care Center Program

i believe that St V's had the best method to interview a candidate because they knew all about me by the end of the meeting. i was made to sit individually with a faculty member for 30 mins & that made them as aware about my personality as any program can get. I i was at ease as it was not a panel interview & the conversation was direct & straight forward.

Residents were very helpful, and let me follow one of them for the whole afternoon. That was very good because I could have a better insight of what they do during the day... even though it was only an afternoon, but it is better than not having any idea.

Overall experience was good, but not knowing your ranking or status until match day was the most nerve racking of the entire process. Its a shame that that process most likely will not change.

Everybody is really friendly but extremely professional at the same time. the program is very strong and the are nice to live in. Residency Interview Experience

I met with eight people during this interview. I was asked the same questions by all of them. Why I chose Family medicine and to tell them why I made a change from engineering to medicine. They gave me a good overview of the program and also a tour of the hospital and outpatient clinics. I felt quite good about this interview.
Residency Interview Experience

This program asked medical questions which I think is ridiculous. They did not even ask u for a cup of tea the whole day. Just have 2 fellowships. but training is excellent. That is the only best part about it.

If you are a FMG take your time to get excellent grades on your Steps, because that is a fundamental aspect of your CV. Also if you have any chance of doing and Observership or Medical School internship in the US its a plus because of two things: you make friends that can help you in the future and also you get letters of recommendation from them which they prefer. Also very important is that you have to apply certified if you are wishing to receive many interviews.

Residency Interview Experience
South Nassau Communities Hospital Program

I felt that the interview was very straightforward in their questions asked such as why did I choose the profession, why did I choose the hospital to interview at, what were my future plans after residency, what unique qualities could I bring to the residency program. It was a friendly interview and it didn't seem like an interrogation. Overall, it was a very good experience and I hope that I can match for a residency spot, but if I don't, I still recommend the program highly to any candidates wishing to apply to South Nassau.

The interviewers including the program director, another attending physician and two senior residents are all friendly. No medical questions are asked. It was a getting-to-know type of interview. Although they asked about what assets do I have that I may contribute to the program. And questions like what can I tell about myself so that they will remember me most when they do their rank list. The interview was relaxed. They were all nice.

This was a phone interview only. They asked me how to manage three different patients in three different situations. They wanted to know do I have a sufficient knowledge to manage MI, pneumonia patients. They also wanted to know do I know how to write admission orders. They asked me why I am interested in Family medicine and what is the difference in family medicine and internal medicine. I felt kind of nervous during this interview because I was bit tired as I had just came from another interview the day before.

The introduction to the program was conducted by a chief resident, the progarm director was kind of busy to attend us (the applicants), my interviewer was an Hospitalist physician with a very limited idea of the residency program. I believe that its a good program but the interviews are kind of inpersonal. At the end there is like a mini interview with the program director and he is always in a rush.

the day started with a briefing of the schedule for the day from the program coordinator and the chief resident. they bring you to the cafeteria for breakfast. interview started around 930 am. all applicants for the day were interviewed by the program director. he asked both theoretical and personal questions. he also asked what we know about the program. the interview is approx 20-30 mins. this is followed by individual interviews with the chief resident, program director, in patient psych consultant and the training officer for the child and adolescent psychiatry program. mostly personal questions like strengths, weakness, why psych and tell something about yourself stuff. generally the interview is laid back and i feel at ease. the program doesn't offer pre match as claimed by the chief resident. 5 to 6 slots this year. location of the hospital is not that good. residents and consultants are generally nice and hospitable.

For a Bronx Hospital, is kept clean and the structure is maintained. My interview went very good over there I had the opportunity to interview with the Program Director and another Physician of the staff. Interviews where basically to know my personality, interests, hobbies, fellowship i'm looking to do and stuff like that. No medical questions where asked here. It was a very easy going interview. We had the chance to attend a morning conference, then watch a video of the program. After the video came the interviews and after that a second year resident gave us a tour of the hospital. He was very frank with us a told us how the work load is which is a lot. But there is one good thing you don't do 24 hr shifts. Again if you are an FMG and speak Spanish you their man because they need translators. The program has around 30 first year positions so its fair. They have research if you are interested in that part but there main strength I guess is that you have so much hands on experience that by the end of you residency you have pretty much seen the whole Harrison. So if you are up to the challenge of a lot of work load but no 24 hr shifts this is your place.

College of Medicine Mayo Clinic (Rochester) Program

The program director is an absolutely great guy. His sense of humor, wonderful manners, and personal attention put me at ease right away. We talked about medicine in general, pediatrics, board passing rates of all pediatric programs, Red Sox, Yankees, Mayo brothers, late jokes and everything else you can think of. He is the reason why I ranked this program #1, I like people with very broad range of knowledge and that is what he has and I value. Interviews with 2 other faculty members weren't as remarkable. I didn't feel good at all. First guy basically mentioned to me that I want to do too much and he knows people like me that had many projects left unfinished. Here I want to mention that I'm at least 10 years older than average applicant and I've already been there... Oh, well... The second guy started:"I'll try to get you into our program, tell me why and how I should do it". I'm not raised to boast, and I saw this guy for the first time, even though I did what I had to do, but I would never do that to anybody else. Later I learned that both these guys are great doctors and good teachers, so it gave me a chance to relax. The resident were great, very mature and realistic, they were very confident and ready to take charge of anything. I enjoyed the conversations with all of them, from interns to chiefs. I'd love to be a part of this team! The questions mostly were about my past, year by year. Plans for the future weren't covered at all. But in general I enjoyed a lot of personal attention, we had only 4 applicants and everybody was very active asking questions, we managed to cover a very good mileage through the clinic with all the interesting places to see, grand rounds were great too. As an IMG I enjoyed meeting many foreign doctors and was very happy to hear accents from all around the world! Great place and great life experience!

overall it was a very good interview. The Program Director was very nice and friendly. I was very relaxed throughout the interview and felt within my heart that this is the place where i would like to be and start my career. Some of the questions that i was asked are as follow: 1. Why did you choose Family Medicine? 2.How did you learn about our program? 3.Tell me about your self? 4.What would you like to do after Residency? 5. If you were offer a prematch here would you accept it or not? 6. What was an intresting case that you came across during your clinical rotations? 7. Why did you go to Ross Medical School? 8. Why do you choose to come to the Midwest? 9. Why did you change careers? 10. How many children do you have ? 11. What would your children like to become when they grow older?

It was a nice program, the program director gave us a brief summary about the program, then each one of the eight applicants was interviewed by two faculty members, they like to ask about an interesting case so you should prepare a good one, they prefer applicants who have an intention to continue in primary care more than those who are looking for fellowship so be aware for that, everybody is nice there, it is a good balance of work and family atmosphere.

New York Medical College (Metropolitan) Program

Hospital is very dirty, old, and around 95% of the staff and patients are Hispanics. You only here Spanish at the corridors. The interview I did very good but I didn't like the fact that only one person interviews you. They do take their time with you though. I spent around 45-50 min with the Program Director which by the way is a very nice person. They give you a tour of the Hospital with the chief resident and after that comes the interview. They don't give not even a glass of water ass when you are there, and I think that talks alot about the program. Maybe the Hospital is broke or whatever. We didn't have the chance to speak with other residents and ask them about the working environment. I felt very comfortable in the interview but they do ask medical questions although they are easy I don't think is a good way to conduct such things. They asked me contraindicaction for NSAIDS, how to manage Hyperkalemia, how to diagnose a diabetic px. But my guess is that the questions are oriented toward the fellowship you are interested in, because I had a friend who likes cardio that was give this whole cardio case for him to manage. My advise is, if you are and FMG that dominates spanish you are a one step ahead of the others because the majority of the patientsa are spanish speaking and they need translators. Also good grades help as usual.

I was very comfortable at the Interview. Felt confident all the way through and tried to answer all of the questions that i was asked to the best of my ability. I read my application and personal statement before i attended the interview, Some of the questions that i was asked are as follows: 1. what is/are your weakness or weaknesses? 2. What you as a Resident would bring to our program? 3. If you choose to do a fellowship what would it be and why? 4. Why did you choose our program? 5. Where are you from originally? 6. Where did you do your Undergraduate Degree? 7. Why would you like to do Family MNedicine?

Residency Interview Experience
The Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science Program

Well, like a lot of IM programs, It was hard to figure if they were interested in me or not. The interview process started by one of the attending coming in and talking to us a little about the program. Then, 4 out of 8 candidate had 2 interview session with the same 2 faculty members, and the other 4 had 2 other faculty members interviewing them. Personally, i was interviewed by the director and another attending. The director was very nice and welcoming. He inquired about some things in my application then he just asked the universal questions.. why IM? why this program? where do you see yourself in 10 years? etc. But he also gave me 3 clinical cases then he asked me about pt management. which were petty simple and straight forward. So, if you interview at the MSH location of the program, be ready to answer some clinical questions.. The second interview was very dry and short. The attending asked no questions pretty much and asked me if i had any questions, after answering them, it was done.. Then the candidates were taken on a tour of the hospital then lunch with a GREAT 2nd yr resident, who was very nice and very informative. The whole process took about 4hrs long. Hope this helps in any way... Thanks everyone

Raritan Bay Medical Center Program

The interview went very well. The program appears to be a solid community teaching hospital with a primary goal at having their residence succeed on the IM board. The program has no other opposing residencies of fellowship at the same hospital. So, as a resident, you have the opportunity to have an infinite amount of experience. The interviewer asked a few basic clinical questions to test the scope of my knowledge. Overall, it is a nice small program fro someone who wants to primarily stay in primary care medicine. Although, fellowships are possible. It will more challenging to obtain a fellowship coming from that program.

Residency Interview Experience
Danbury Hospital Program

Very nice working environment. The Hospital structure is kept very renovated and clean. The interview went very well all around but the only thing I didn't like about it was that it was a bit fast. You have a minimun of two interviewers but they are like time freaks, and don't let you take to much. But they do let you say want you want because they sit just here you out and after that you are finished. What they want is to know what kind of person you are. They don't ask any medical questions but they do ask how many interviews you have and where. I see the residency as a good place for some one to develop academically. In the interview I felt very relax and easy going every person of the staff was very polite and its seems to me that it was a very good working environment. As my perception because two friends of mine where offer pre-match over there is that, they don't care how many years you have spent out of the university as long as you have a good personality and good step scores. I know this because my two friends who got pre-matches over there have 1 year more than me out of medical school and still that wasn't a concern for them. So my sugestion is they are looking for high 80's or more on both Steps to get you in.

Residency Interview Experience
Woodhull Medical and Mental Health Center Program

hello there! I like the program. I am going to be very sincere in this comment. I got my interview in December 29th 2007. There were 16 applicants that day; all of them for categorical program in Internal Medicine. And all of them Foreign Medical Graduates. I liked the hospital, however, I think the amount of time for week during the first year I think it is too much ( 80 hours/week _regardless the time spent in calls_). The hospital is huge and the variety of cases is very good. There is a rotation in another hospital during the third year. I think it is very good for an intern to face such amount and variety of diagnoses. The program director was very kind, but I think they must change some issues in the interview day. First of all, they are sort of cheap, because they don't pay the hotel. The lunch was ok. The tour for the location was good with the chief resident. The tour was until 11 am. Almost 3 hours. Then we attended a conference for one hour. Then lunch and finally the interviews. I believe they much do the interviews in the morning and then the other stuff. The interviews went till 5 pm. That hour in New York city during winter is sort of late. Anyways, they ask me during interview medical topics. That is paradogical. I thought USMLE Steps were enough to test our knowledge. If a program call me for interview I imagine they are calling me because the check my credentials and USMLE scores beforehand. In that sense I think programs must not ask medical topics. If they hire me, of course I would say yes. It's a good program and a good hospital, but must change the interview process.

I think the interview was okay. I did not get a very good impression at the end. I met with only two people, the program director and assistant director. I felt comfortable during the interview since they did not ask clinical questions or scenarios.

I had a very nice experience at this interview. The medical staff was very well informed, they had a list of questions the applicants usually ask. It was a long interview, with a lot of tasks we had to do. There were individual interviews with the 2 program directors and with another faculty member. They selected a group of 5 applicants to go for a "team" interview with the Behavioral Science Faculty and with a Psychologist. Then the same group had an activity called Editorial Book Review, or something similar. All i can say it was a very serious interview and hopefully i will match with them.

Residency Interview Experience
UCLA-Kern Medical Center Program

I thought my interview went very well in this program. The staff and residency director were very young. They knew what they were looking for in a canidate. They were looking for an individual, who can be more of a team player with the program. I was asked what If I wanted to do a fellowship. I felt very comfortable in the interview. The residents looked very happy to be in this program. I do no have any bad things to say about the program. My only advice for this program is to make sure you get plenty of sleep and stay at the hotel they recommend.

Louisiana State University (Shreveport) Program

Interview process is good, not too many questions and all are routine questions. Hospital is very good.
Residency Interview Experience
Loma Linda University Program

Very good director. Solid program. Comfortable interview. Very competitive. The director asked about my motivation, what I thought made me competitive and why I thought I would do well in a program as challenging as theirs.
